Jerry On Rolando McClain: 'He Wants To Play, But ...'

FRISCO (105.3 The Fan) - On many, many levels and for many, many reasons, the Dallas Cowboys have no true interest in bringing back into the fold the talented-but-troubled Rolando McClain.
Yet Cowboys owner Jerry Jones refused today to shut the door on the idea, acknowledging that McClain is eligible to return to the NFL from his 10-game suspension next week.
"He's in shape,'' Jones said while meeting with the media outside the locker room at The Star in Frisco. "Rolando is really somebody who helped us when he was here, but I really don't want to get into when or if he might be joining us.''
One of the reasons to "not get into that'' is because it's highly unlikely it'll happen.
"Yes, he does want to play, but there is more detail that I'm not going to get into right now,'' added Jones.
McClain is on the reserve/did not report list because he failed to come to training camp in Oxnard with the rest of the team last summer. The Cowboys therefore won't be forced to make a decision about his status when the suspension comes to an end. … and the team — despite Jones' positive words — has reason to be dubious about McClain being "in shape'' or even eligible to play following the end of this suspension, given his history of drug use and impromptu retirements.
