Homeless Man Arrested After Assaulting 2 Women With Knife

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police arrested a homeless man after they say he assaulted two women with a knife in downtown Dallas on Sunday.

Police say the man, 22-year-old Brandon Holbert, approached three women just after 12:20 p.m., at the intersection of Main Street and North Ervay Street.

According to police, Holbert accused the women of taking a picture of him and while ranting pulled out a pocketknife and began making threats.

Police say two of the women ran from the suspect and into the Wilson Building in the 1600 block of Main Street. Holbert allegedly cornered them in an elevator and cut them with a knife on the face, arms and shoulders.

One of the victims was able to escape the elevator and ran out of the building. The other woman was taken to an apartment inside the building by a witness.

Good Samaritan Michael Osman told a CBS 11 News crew that he was out walking his dog when he saw what appeared to be a group of defenseless women who were under attack. "When I walked outside there was a guy on the corner he had ripped his backpack off and started screaming about a cell phone and then just punched the woman in the face," he said.

Osman said he did his best to keep the man out of the building, but to no avail. "When he came in following… he stuck his foot by the door [and] stopped me from pushing the door shut, so he's real skinny [and] he just squeezed his way right pass me."

Police were called and Holbert was arrested. Today he is facing several charges including two counts of aggravated assault.

The injuries the women sustained were not life threatening.
