Grand Jury Ends Without Hearing Manziel Assault Case

DALLAS (CBSFDW.COM) – A Dallas County grand jury has ended its term without hearing the misdemeanor assault case against ex-pro football star Johnny Manziel.
Dallas police referred the alleged domestic violence case to the grand jury in late February. The grand jury ended its term last week, without taking the matter up.
The case was "rescheduled," and will "probably" be heard by a new grand jury, said Brittany Dunn, spokeswoman for the Dallas County District Attorney's Office.
Dunn declined to give a reason for why the case has been delayed in going before a grand jury.
The 2012 Heisman quarterback for Texas A&M University, who most recently was released from the Cleveland Browns, was accused of roughing up ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley in late January, during a night of partying in Dallas and Fort Worth.
The domestic violence case, a misdemeanor, carries a maximum punishment, upon conviction, of one year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
Neither the attorney for Manziel, nor the lawyer for Crowley, could be reached for comment.
