FWISD Parents Express Concern After Superintendent Retires
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - On this last day of school in Fort Worth ISD it's also the last day for outgoing Superintendent Walter Dansby. Board members are meeting Monday night to determine what's next for the district.
Dansby has declined on camera interviews, but did tell CBS 11 News that he's feeling relaxed and he's ready to move on to the next chapter of his life. He called it quits last week and is walking away with about $900,000.
Teena James is a parent of several students in FWISD and said she thinks the district is in trouble.
"It was a major distraction," said James. She also wants board members to listen to parent's concerns. "We are tax payers and we are basically paying their salaries and they are supposed to be working for us it doesn't matter what we say its what they wanted," said James.
Parents said they are watching what happens next with this position. In fact, they have some ideas about who they would like to see as the next district leader.
"I would say that somebody who has experience teaching and being principal," said parent Gayle Cackett. "Both and several different school districts that way you have really well rounded approach and a lot more experience."
James said it will be hard to replace Dansby, "We want someone who wants to be a strong leader. Someone who cares about the children and gets out and spends time coming to your schools."
Dansby starts his new role as Ambassador for Public Relations on Tuesday. The board is expected to lay out expectations for his role at the meeting Monday night as well.
