FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - For the first time, Fort Worth ISD parents, students and employees will be invited to help choose some important dates in the district calendar.

Their vote will impact both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years.

"It's important to listen to our customers," said Dr. Kent P. Scribner, Fort Worth ISD Superintendent. "This is the kind of collaboration that will help us more effectively prepare our students for success in college, career, and community leadership."

Stakeholders will be presented with Calendar Option A and Calendar Option B for both school years.

The biggest difference in both calendars is the timing of the Christmas break.

· Under Option A in 2016-17, the winter break will begin on December 19 and run through December 30, with students returning on January 3 (and staff returning on January 2.) Under Option A in 2017-18, the winter break will begin on December 18 and run through December 29, with students returning on January 3 (and staff returning on January 2.)

· Under Option B in 2016-17, the winter break will begin on December 23 and run through January 6, with students returning on January 10 (and staff returning on January 9.) Under Option B in 2017-18, the winter break will begin on December 22 and run through January 5, with students returning on January 9 (and staff returning on January 8.)

Visual representations of these calendar options are available on the district website. Look for the featured area titled Vote Today/Help Select the 2016-17 and 2017-18 School Calendars.

Each person may vote once for the option that works best for their families. Voting will continue two weeks and be open through midnight on Wednesday, February 3.
