Fort Worth Animal Clinic Secretly Kept Dog Alive
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - An animal clinic in Fort Worth is under investigation after allegations of abuse and telling lies to at least one North Texas family. Months after the family was told that their dog had to be put down, they learned that the animal was secretly kept alive. And the story does not end there.
The owners of Sid gave permission for the 4-year-old dog to be euthanized at the Camp Bowie Animal Clinic in October. That Harris family said that their veterinarian, Lou Tierce, recommended euthanization because of the dog's declining health. However, last week, the family received a call from a former employee who told them that Sid was still alive at the clinic.
The employee told the Harris family that the dog was being used for blood transfusions and other medical procedures. Now, the family -- as well as others who use this clinic -- want to know what was happening over the last few months. "My one son said this is the best day ever because we have Sid back," said pet owner Marian Harris, "but it's my angriest day ever that somebody could do this."
No charges have been filed in this case, however, state officials are investigating the matter to see exactly how many pets were involved. Another two dogs have already been removed from the clinic.
A number of people have said that Tierce is a very well respected veterinarian, but the Camp Bowie Animal Clinic has a D rating with the Better Business Bureau and is not an accredited establishment. Tierce has yet to comment about the allegations.
