Flower Mound To Debut Police Bike Patrol Program
FLOWER MOUND (CBSDFW.COM) -- Some officers in Flower Mound will soon trade in their patrol cars for pedals as part of the city's new Bike Patrol Program.
The Flower Mound Police Department will introduce the fleet on Wednesday in a ceremony open to the community.
The program was made possible by donations from three community partners: Market Street, Scottish Rite of Fort Worth, and the Flower Mound Police Department Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association.
"We're so grateful for our community partners who have stepped up and made a positive difference in our community," said Chief of Police Andy Kancel. "This is a great opportunity to celebrate the official launch of our bicycle patrol program and is a prime example of how the Flower Mound community works together."
The department believes the bicycle patrols will "help foster positive community interactions, address criminal activity in areas inaccessible to a police vehicle, and promote bicycle safety."
The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, July 30, at 9:30 a.m. at Market Street, 3800 Long Prairie Rd.
