DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Investigators were out on Monday morning looking for the cause of a three-alarm fire that destroyed a former Mexican restaurant in northeast Dallas and left one person dead.

Heavy flames were shooting through the roof when firefighters first arrived at the structure, located in the 7500 block of Greenville Avenue near Meadow Road. The building used to be an Uncle Julio's restaurant, but the location has since shut down.

"While initial attempts were made to breach an entry point, the fire grew far too intense and was fought defensively from the onset," said Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans.

Evans first reported no injuries after the incident, but Dallas Fire-Rescue later confirmed that one body was removed from the scene.

Firefighters remained at the location for hours after the fire was extinguished to put out any hot spots and search for more possible victims.

"Damage to the building was so severe that its condition was deemed unsafe for entry and, as a result, will have to be demolished," Evans said.
