DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police are trying to find two men who made quite a mess while stealing a money machine from inside a Dallas gas station.

The thieves were after the ATM inside the Shell station on Interstate-30, near Jim Miller Road. The machine sat against a glass wall, just inside the door. It was just before 4 a.m. when the thieves smashed through the wall with a full-size SUV to get to the machine.

The damage is so extensive the owners of the store are afraid the burglary may shut down their business. "It's terrible man!" store co-owner Sean Addas said frustrated. "We just always have to keep this open, try to do the business, but there are some few bad apples that try to take advantage."

Surveillance video shows those two 'bad apples' after they smashed through the wall of the store with a Chevy suburban. The pair struggled unsuccessfully to lift the ATM out of the debris.

Abbas said, "So, what they did they just went back, and they hit reverse and then came back [crashing] in again and lifted the whole ATM."

The second time the crooks smashed the SUV into the wall they manage to knock the ATM off its floor mount. Now they can lift the ATM out.

At a time when business is usually bustling, the store storeowners say the demolished wall has scared customers away. "The customers are very scared, you know? They're free to come in here. They like, 'hey what's going on here?' Everybody's asking… this is like the worst, what happened, you know?"

A Dallas police department blog shows a rash of similar smash and grab robberies all across town. In this case police are hoping someone recognizes the crooks or the now damaged green-colored Suburban. The vehicle is believed to be an early 2000's model.

Anyone with information about the burglars or the stolen ATM is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (214) 373-8477.
