DFW Travelers Met With Canceled Flights
GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - The winter mess that passed through North Texas on Monday morning left area roads mostly safe, but it has not been so kind to those trying to catch a flight. DFW International Airport reported 485 cancellations as Thanksgiving week begins.
That number includes 305 cancellations that were made on Sunday, in preparation for Monday's winter event. Most of the cancellations were made because of planes that had not arrived at the airport from other cities.
Thousands of people at the airport are now trying to book new flights. That aside, airport officials expect afternoon operations to return to normal. "We expect things to get back to normal very quickly," stated DFW International Airport spokesman David Magana. "We are seeing a lot of passengers being rebooked by the airlines, and so we ask that passengers check with their airlines as quickly as they can and make sure that they keep track of their flight information."
With the holiday coming up on Thursday, this week is expected to be an extremely busy travel time. While Wednesday will be busy, the Sunday after Thanksgiving is typically one of the busiest travel days of the year. DFW International Airport expects 2.1 million people to pass through its gates over the holiday, and recommends that flyers arrive at least two hours before flights are scheduled to depart.
