Denton PD Won't Be Back At Site Of Weekend Deadly Crash

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - It turns out police in Denton will not be returning to the scene of a crash that killed two children and left a third in critical condition. A friend of the crash victims had said there would be an accident reconstruction, but while officers are still investigating the crash, they say they won't be at the crash scene today.
The De Luna family, riding in a Nissan minivan, was sitting at a red light in the left lane of westbound Highway 380, when the driver of a Ford F-350 pickup slammed into the back of their vehicle. The truck driver isn't believed to have have ever hit the brakes.
The impact of the crash pushed the minivan into two other vehicles. While there was damage to those vehicles no one inside was hurt.
Denton police say they'll be following up with the pickup truck driver, and working to determine his speed. The speed limit on US 380 is 55 miles per hour. But police and people who live near nearby say drivers often go a lot faster.
Resident Kevin Bradshaw said, "They have flashing lights telling you there's gonna be a stop light. You can see it a distance -- a half mile away. What more can you do?"
The De Luna's 11-year-old daughter, Leslie, and 8-year-old son were killed. A 4-year-old child remains in critical condition. Police say the children were not secured in the vehicle.
Officials say the pickup driver voluntarily agreed to a blood test that showed no evidence of intoxication.
The death of the two children has left family, friends and the community grief-striken. Neighbor Gracie Riley said, "Kids are supposed to bury their parents. The parents are never supposed to bury the kids. And to be that little… it's devastating. I just can't imagine what she's going through."
Two adults were also in the minivan: an adult male in the front passenger seat and an adult female in the driver's seat. They and the driver of the Ford F-350 were all treated for minor injuries at Denton Regional Medical Center and released.
