Cop Hurt by Suspected Drunk Driver

A Dallas police officer was nearly killed when another driver blasted through a red light and broadsided his squad car. The accident happened on Montfort at Belt Line about 1:00 a.m. Thursday.  The police car was knocked spinning into oncoming traffic, colliding with at least two other vehicles.  Police believe the first driver had been drinking because she flunked a field sobriety test, but they're waiting for blood tests to confirm that.  She was not seriously hurt and was arrested at the scene while the officer was taken to a Dallas hospital with multiple cuts and bruises.  His condition has not been released.

Witnesses saw the woman blow through the red light and crash into the passenger side of the squad car.  Other officers say their colleague could have been killed if the impact had been on the driver's side.  Two other cars were damaged in the chain reaction crash.  Those drivers were checked out at the scene but were not seriously hurt.
