NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - It was last week when the federal government denied disaster assistance for residents living in six North Texas counties that received damage by the storms on December 26.

In order for Governor Greg Abbott to appeal the decision, the State is collecting damage and insurance information related to the deadly tornadoes.

The request for individual or residential assistance for people living in Collin, Dallas, Ellis, Franklin, Rockwall and Van Zandt Counties was denied. Now, residents in those areas, who suffered property or vehicle damage or were injured, are being asked to complete a survey.

The December Tornado Damages and Insurance Survey must be completed by February 28, since Governor Abbott only has 30 days to appeal the denial of assistance decision.
