Changes Mean DART Streetcars Now Running Until Midnight

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - It seems 'Big D' is getting bigger! Local officials say they are making changes to how residents and visitors get around, to keep up with that growth.
There is now another way to get around parts of Dallas and the new service hitting the street today is free!
An expansion of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) service means not only is there streetcar service seven days a week, but the cars will now run later into the night.
DART streetcars previously operated Monday through Friday, from 5 a.m. until 7:15 p.m. The new service has the cars running seven days a week, from 9:30 a.m. to midnight.
The changes are being made in preparation for expansion into the Bishop Arts District later this year.
Currently, riders can go from Union Station in downtown, over the Trinity River, into Oak Cliff. This fall the streetcar will go further -- into the popular Bishop Arts.
Right now, the streetcar route makes stops every 30 minutes, but DART officials say that time will improve to every 20 minutes once the Bishop Arts stop is complete.
DART officials suggest that commuters needing to get to downtown Dallas earlier consider using the Route 21 bus, which parallels the Dallas Streetcar over the Houston and Jefferson Street viaducts.
The other free service DART service – the D-Link shuttle – also goes through downtown Dallas and Oak Cliff.
