TEMPLE, Texas (AP) — Police in Temple say a 15-year-old girl is being treated for wounds suffered when her father shot her during an apparent domestic dispute.

Temple police spokeswoman Shawana Neely said in a statement Saturday that the girl's mother drove her to a hospital emergency room for treatment but then left.

The teen suffered injuries to her arm and abdomen in the shooting Friday.

Neely says an arrest warrant has been issued for 44-year-old Quentin Lamont Smith on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The girl told officers she was shot while in a vehicle behind a Temple apartment complex.

Neely says the father and mother may have been arguing and the dispute precipitated the shooting. But she said investigators are still working to determine what transpired.
