Cavalli Store At NorthPark Center Draws Protest

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Luxury retail store Roberto Cavalli at NorthPark Center was under fire Friday by Sufi students. The protestors called for the famous fashion label to remove the Sufi emblem from its clothing.

The group said the retailer uses a rotated version of the sacred Sufi symbol in its ready-to-wear "Just Cavalli" line.

Sufism, mystical Islamic belief and practice in which Muslims seek to find the truth of divine love and knowledge through direct personal experience of God, according to Encyclopedia Britannica. It consists of a variety of mystical paths that are designed to ascertain the nature of humanity and of God and to facilitate the experience of the presence of divine love and wisdom in the world.

Italian designer Roberto Cavalli hasn't comment on the protests, which took place globally.

After attempting to contact Cavalli and being repeatedly ignored, the students have launched a social media campaign on Twitter (#TakeOffJustLogo), YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, SufiRights.com and Change.org to raise awareness and support.
