Owner and artist Ted Matthews represents 150 talented local artists, offering plenty of pieces for less than $100, including prints, woodcuts, etchings, aquatints, jewelry, glassworks, hats and scarves made from vintage fabrics. The gallery continuously garners good reviews for its affordable, eclectic and diverse works known for their originality. Matthews, a gifted artist himself, also has a knack for finding and promoting other passionate artists. The Artisans Collective is well worth the trip to the charming Bishops Arts District and is within walking distance of good restaurants and unique stores. Parking is free and close to the shops.

Unusual handmade jewelry by local artists includes fashion-forward necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Clothing made with fabric prints inspired by the iconic artists Picasso, Van Gogh and Joan Miró are eye catching. The museum itself features one of the finest Spanish art collections outside of Spain. It focuses on the Spanish "Golden Age" and contains masterworks by Diego Velázquez. Parking is free with a stamped museum ticket.

www.tvaa.orgThe Texas Visual Arts Association Gallery, in downtown Dallas at the Plaza of the Americas, is a well-respected 60-year-old organization whose mission is to encourage artists and promote art in Texas. Inside of the main gallery is a gift store with prints, unframed art, jewelry, handcrafted boxes and other fanciful creations by local artists. Glass cases at the front are filled with beautiful handmade jewelry priced surprisingly low for the workmanship and artistry. There is parking in the high-rise building, but it can get expensive. Metered parking is available on Pearl and Crockett Streets. Parking lots on Crockett and San Jacinto are $6. Inside there are restaurants, a food court, shops and an ice-skating rink. The TVAA Gallery is located a level above the skating rink.

The owner Roberta Campos and her family help customers find the perfect gift at a reasonable price.
