4-Hour Standoff In Highland Park Ends Peacefully

HIGHLAND PARK (CBSDFW.COM) — A man barricaded himself inside his home Sunday evening, leading to a four-hour standoff with SWAT. The standoff ended when SWAT went in and retrieved the man.

The man barricaded himself in a house on the 4800 block of Abbott Avenue after getting into a disagreement with a woman, according to Highland Park police. A 911 call around 5:45 p.m. reported the verbal argument; the woman left without incident. Around 10:20 p.m., officers rushed inside his home and apprehended the man.

At one point, 35 officers were on the scene. Highland Park PD had sent messages to 300 nearby addresses that said to stay inside. The section of Katy Trail behind the house was closed off for several hours.

Negotiators used a loud speaker to ask the man to come out of the house.

Earlier in the night, Highland Park police said they were assembling the Southern Regional Response Group — five different police agencies that combine resources for SWAT operations.

SWAT went in the house around 10:20 p.m., nearly four and a half hours after the 911 call, and retrieved the man. He was not injured, but was transported to the hospital for evaluation, according to police.

Highland Park police say charges are not expected to be filed against the man.
