2 People Found Dead In Watauga Home Following SWAT Standoff

WATAUGA (CBSDFW.COM) — Two people were found dead in a Watauga home following a SWAT standoff that lasted for hours Saturday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m. July 20, Watauga police responded to a concerning call about a person under duress in the Loma Vista neighborhood, west of Rufe Snow.

Lt. Jason Babcock said they received a disturbing call from a man at home.

"Statements he made, and his emotional state led us to believe he may intend to harm himself," Babcock said.

Upon arrival, he said no one came to the door or answered the phone. Not knowing what was going on inside the house, it prompted a SWAT team to go in.

They advised residents near the neighborhood to "shelter in place" while they worked the incident.

"We asked some of the neighbors to shelter in place and stay in their house," Babcock said. "Just because anytime there's a tactical SWAT team, things can happen. If someone's outside looking around, it's for their safety."

When SWAT finally got inside the home, a man and woman were found inside a bedroom. Their identities have not been released.

A motive for this crime has not been confirmed but police said there's no threat to the public.

Residents were allowed to return to their homes around 7 p.m.
