Firebrand right-wing influencer Steve Bannon served a four-month sentence for defying a subpoena from a congressional committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
His legal team is going on the offensive, calling for state and federal investigations into the dissemination of material from his laptop.
President Trump blasted his former chief strategist ahead of the release of a new, unflattering book that paints his White House as chaotic.
"You knew that Bannon was not going to last. Arguably this was the worst week that this White House has had and it was a good time to cut him loose," Eastern Michigan political science professor Ed Sidlow said.
