Even before the Lions selected him with the 80th overall pick in the draft, cornerback Alex Carter had some connections to the team.

"One thing that I've learned about this process is it's very unpredictable. You don't know what's going to happen, so you've got to prepare for everything. We'll be ready for every alternative."
Lions fans averaged 4.2 mistakes per 100 words, about four times better than Washington Redskins fans, who ranked last in the NFL.
This years first round pick and draft overall is even more important as Detroit comes off just their third playoff appearance since 1999.
"I think we have been, since 2011, more cautious in terms of our sources and the people that we're talking to," Mayhew said Friday.
"They're game changers," analyst Mike Mayock said of Gordon and Gurley. "One of those guys would be really hard for me to pass up."
