Quarterback Matthew Stafford was a full participant in the Lions' Wednesday practice, as he deals with an unspecified injury to his ribs that he suffered against Minnesota.
The Detroit Lions are sitting at 0-2 with a game coming up against the Denver Broncos on Sunday night.
"I have to do a better job as far as finding the holes and making things happen. We can do better collectively as a group, but I take most of the blame."
"All I know is when it comes time to make a clutch throw, he always makes it, whether it's zipped or lobbed or whatever. We expect him to be able to make all his throws."
Head coach Jim Caldwell again deferred to the injury report when asked about the status of quarterback Matthew Stafford.
The Denver Broncos don't look like the same dominant team from the past few years, but they're still extremely dangerous. With the way the Detroit Lions have played so far, they must not take anyone lightly in search of their first win of the season.
"I think everyone in this building – I mean, hopefully everyone in this state – support Stafford and this team. … I wouldn't pay too much attention to all that BS. That's just someone trying to start something, give someone something to talk about."
Matthew Stafford was in the locker room Monday, but he wouldn't comment to reporters on any injuries after last weekend's loss to Minnesota.
"We'll see. Like I said, he's very, very sore. There's no question about that. He got hit far too many times."
To add literal insult to injury, Pro Football Focus now says that Stafford has the second-worst grades of any quarterback through the first two weeks. PFF grades each player in the NFL each week, based off their performances, then those grades are normalized based off individual game situations.
USA Today ran the numbers, and teams that start 2-0 like the Lions are - newsflash - far less likely to make the playoffs. According to the story, "over the past six seasons you have a 4% chance of making the playoffs if you're winless headed into Week 3." And since the NFL expanded to its playoff format in 1990, only 11.2 percent of 204 teams to start 2-0 have made the playoffs that season.
The Detroit Lions played great last week, but couldn't keep it going for the entire game. In week two, the Minnesota Vikings just dominated from the start and the Lions really had no answer for Adrian Peterson whatsoever.
