Wyandotte Street Art Fair Brings More Of Everything

WYANDOTTE (CBS Detroit) This isn't your grandma's art fair -- The Wyandotte Street Art Fair is chock full of artists and unique things to bring home, from metal sculptures to leather goods, paintings, pottery and modern photography for your walls.

The fair, a downriver tradition that draws people from all over metro Detroit,  is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Saturday on Biddle between Eureka and Oak streets.

This year promises to be bigger and better than ever with live entertainment, a kids section for fun and games and lots of food diversity, including shish kebabs, deep-fried vegetables and traditional fair food like elephant ears, cotton candy, hot dogs and ice cream.

A vintage section will celebrate the fair history with sales of old school rock 'n roll posters, T-shirts and more.

There will also be more artists than ever before -- 250 in all.

"The fair has gotten bigger and has accepted artists from across the nation, we have represenations from almost all 50 states here with us this week downriver. It promises to be a great week, the weather has given us a good break," said Jody Egan, an organizer of the fair.

An adjacent Live Green Fair features ideas and products to help anyone save money while being more earth friendly.

"Folks can learn about healthy living in terms of food, in terms of products for the home ... they're more earth friendly," Egan said.

The green fair will include on-site demonstrations of solar, wind or geothermal energy and information on how visitors can minimize costs while "creating a lifetime of energy savings."

Take note as you're getting ready to go: Pets are not allowed, open alcoholic beverages are not permitted -- unless they are purchased and consumed at the fair. Bikes, roller blades, skates, scooters, heelies and the like are not permitted.

Parking is available nearby at Chase Bank on Biddle, at Oak and First streets, on Biddle between Pine and Plum, and on First Street between Superior and Chestnut.
