WWJ Among The Throngs Arriving At Mackinac
Matt Roush reporting
We made it!
WWJ Newsradio 950 is at the Detroit Regional Chamber Mackinac Policy Conference.
It was a surprisingly quick four-hour drive to Mackinac City from Southfield this morning for me, WWJ reporter Vickie Thomas and WWJ program director Rob Davidek Wednesday morning.
But that's when things got interesting. The winds are howling out of the west across the Straits of Mackinac at 40 to 50 mph, churning up four to six foot waves. It was a bit bumpy, but the giant Arnold Line catamaran got us through just fine -- though I'm pretty sure the school group from Ellsworth that sat up top of the boat might have regretted their choice, since a lot of them got soaked by the frigid spray.
We're getting set up now in the Grand Hotel Media Center, and can't wait for the program to start at 3:30 p.m. Check this Web site for frequent updates.
And if you want more than news coverage and have the time, Detroit Public Television is providing more than 20 hours of gavel-to-gavel coverage of the conference, CSpan style, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
The coverage is on air on digital TV channel 56.2 in Detroit, which is carried on several cable systems -- Comcast 287, Bright House 155 and Charter 432. It's also available online here at CBSDetroit.com. CLICK HERE.
