Woman Dies After Parade Float, Car Collide
LAPEER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a woman has died and several others have been injured after a modified float carrying people to a parade collided with a car about 60 miles northwest of Detroit.
WJRT-TV and The Flint Journal report an older woman driving the car died at the scene Saturday morning after she turned in front of the float on a road in Lapeer County's Lapeer Township. Her identity hasn't been released.
Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Jason Parks tells the newspaper that nine people on the float were hurt - two seriously - but other details about their conditions weren't available.
The Associated Press left a message for Parks.
The truck float, which resembles a steam locomotive but is legal for the road, was heading to the Metamora Days Parade.
