Wings Need To Watch 60 Minutes
After watching the Red Wings drop a 4-2 decision to Phoenix this afternoon, it is apparent what this team has to do to win this series ,and it's not necessarily going to be easy.
The Red Wings need to actually play a full 60 minutes, which is something they have not done in the first three games of the series. The Wings have had too many periods where it looked like Phoenix was the only team on the ice. In game three, it was the second period. The Coyotes dominated the middle twenty minutes and the Wings were fortunate to only be down 2-1. In fact Jimmy Howard kept them in the game. Unfortunately, Howard did not make the big save in the final period when they needed it the most. The Wings had just cut a 3-1 deficit to 3-2 on a Johan Franzen goal. Joe Louis Arena was going nuts ,but they were quickly silenced when Radim Vrbata beat Howard to the short side, making it 4-2 and a 2-1 Coyote series lead.
No excuses at all from this team. They knew they were outplayed and outworked. Even when Shane Doan went down to injury,Phoenix kept up the intensity. This has to change. I think being down 2-1 is enough of a wakeup call for some urgency. And that urgency better show up Tuesday evening at 6:30.
