Wings Game 3 Loss, Brings Back Recent And Past Memories
Say goodbye to the 2009-2010 hockey season.
It ended the same way many games ended this past season and also brought back a painful memory from 1994. All season long Detroit blew third period leads and that is exactly what happened Tuesday night. Trailing 3-1 after two periods, San Jose scored a lucky goal to make it 3-2 off of a skate and then tied it with a horrible goal that Jimmy Howard basically whiffed on.It was the second bad goal Howard let in. The Sharks then won it in overtime on a 2 on 1 goal by Patrick Marleau and for the third straight game the Wings found themselves on the short end of a 4-3 score.
Although the overtime goal won it, the game was decided by San Jose controlling the third period and horrible goaltending by Jimmy Howard. The tieing goal by Logan Couture brought back a memory from 1994 that the Wings, their fans and a rookie goalie would like to forget. In the seventh game of their first round series with San Jose, a young Chris Osgood made a poor clearing pass on the stick of Jamie Baker who put it in the net and the Wings were out. Hopefully, Howard can recover from that mistake the way Osgood did by becoming a multiple Stanley Cup winner.
I know the 1975 New York Islanders and 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs came back from a 3-0 deficit, but I am sorry that is not happening in 2010. Unfortunately the reality is that this team and this goalie let it slip away. Golf season begins Friday.
