Wings Drop Third In A Row!

Wings Drop Third In A Row!

The Red Wings are riding a season long losing streak at 3 games, the last two in regulation with the latest being Wednesday night at the Joe against the Predators 3-2. Detroit struggled to get off to a good start being outshot 14 to 8 in the first period and were never able to fully recover. The Wings allowed a couple of hockey no-no's as Nashville scored their first goal off the stick of Colin Wilson with just 33 seconds left in the first period and their 2nd goal from Martin Erat came a mere 49 ticks of the clock into the 2nd period. Detroit Head Coach Mike Babcock was very disappointed in the way his team started the game. "They looked way quicker than we did in the first period. By the end of the game, we looked quicker than them. But you've got to start on time in this business."

Nashville forward J. P. Dumont ended up getting the game winner in the 3rd period after the Wings had closed the game to a 2-1 affair. Pavel Datsyuk got Detroit on the board with a shorthanded goal in the 2nd period while Johan Franzen made things close with his team leading 13th score of the season with just 1:33 left to go in the contest. "We came with a real push, but we say it a lot: Catch-up hockey is losing hockey," Babcock said. "If you don't get prepared, if you don't start on time, if you don't skate, you're not going to be very good."

Nashville goalie Anders Lindback was sensational from the get go stopping 35 of the Wing's 37 shots and preventing a goal on 4 Detroit power plays. "He played real well," Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom said. "They were making it hard on us, kind of forcing us to the outside, but he made some good saves. He's a big guy in net and he covers a lot of net. It wasn't easy to get the puck by him." Jimmy Howard allowed 3 goals on 24 shots with very little chance to stop any of the Nashville scores.

Detroit now gets ready to bring in the Montral Canadiens for an "Orginal 6" matchup at Joe Louis Arena on Friday night at 7:30. Catch the broadcast starting at 7:10 on 97.1FM "The Ticket"
