West Michigan All White, More Snow Coming

GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ) - Michigan's winter has rallied. While snow isn't yet posing much of a problem yet here at home, if you're planning to head further west, you'll want to be careful.

The west side of the state is under about a half a foot of snow already, and meteorologists with the National Weather Service say it could see another 2 to 5 inches by Saturday morning.

The heavy snow tapers off as it heads east but there are still some spots to watch out for in the middle of the state. Central Michigan under a few inches of snow and there's a winter weather advisory in effect for that area.

Meantime, the snow continues to fall Up North. In the northern Lower Peninsula, broadcasters reported more than 100 school districts closed Friday.

Local Forecast

In Southeast Michigan, WWJ-TV Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus says we can expect cold winds and snow flurries into Friday night, with a snow shower or two possible that could leave us with a fresh covering.

Temperatures will hang around in the 20s for the afternoon, heading down into the upper teens overnight -- so watch out for slippery roads is it gets later.

As for the rest of the weekend, Metro Detroit is expected to see more snow showers on Saturday (Hi 29/Lo 18) and partly cloudy on Sunday (Hi 23/Lo 18).
