Wayne County's Park System Getting $2.5 Million Upgrade

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Wayne County's parks are getting a $2.5 million upgrade as officials work to create a master plan for the future of the park system.

County Executive Warren Evans announced Thursday the funds will help repair and enhance parks and other facilities. His office says another $1.25 million is being allocated to parks and recreational programs that are managed by cities and townships.

Plans for improvements this year are focused on 17 projects, including installation of new equipment, an infrastructure assessment, upgrades to facilities and trailway developments. Several shelters, playgrounds and gathering spaces also will be improved.

The projects will be focused in a handful of parks, including Elizabeth Park in Trenton, Hines Park -- which stretches through Northville, Plymouth, Livonia, Westland and Dearborn Heights, Nankin Mills in Westland, Holliday Nature Preserve in Westland, Lola Valley Park in Redford Township, Crosswinds Marsh in New Boston, and Inkster Park in Inkster.
