Underground Substation Explodes In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say an underground substation in downtown Detroit exploded Saturday morning, sending manhole covers flying into the air.
The explosion happened at Griswold and State streets, near Michigan Avenue and Washington Boulevard.
A spokesperson at the Detroit Fire Department said an electrical fire underground caused manhole covers to blow into the air. Some businesses nearby also reported broken windows from the blast.
DTE crews are working on the problem with firefighters standing by to assist as needed.
No one was injured and officials say there is no hazard in the area, although citizens are being warned to keep back.
