The Lions had the No. 1 pick, and as the Panthers did in 2011 with Cam Newton, they got their franchise QB first overall. Dane Brugler looks back at the 2009 draft and grades reviving Detroit as the only A student.

Before prospects even take the field, most of us are guilty of "grading" each team on how they did in the draft. While there is nothing wrong with immediately evaluating each team's draft class, a more practical exercise is to give prospects two or three seasons to prove themselves in the NFL.

In retrospect looking back at the 2009 NFL Draft, a few "hits" are now "misses" and vice versa with some players underachieving while others surpassing expectations.
