Traverse City Film Festival Kicks Off In Northern Michigan

TRAVERSE CITY (AP) — The annual Traverse City Film Festival is kicking off in northern Michigan.

Oscar winner Michael Moore co-founded the festival and is showcasing works by his fellow Michigan natives at the event, which runs Tuesday-Sunday.

Altogether, more than 200 movies will be shown. Moore has said there's an emphasis on works by women and minorities who often don't get a fair chance in Hollywood.

A panel will explore filmmaking in Michigan during a course at the Traverse City Film Festival Film School, which is part of the week's events. "Create Your Film in Michigan/Making Movies in Michigan" is Wednesday at Northwestern Michigan College.

The Michigan Film & Digital Media Office says the aim of the discussion is to provide a detailed, step-by-step approach to filmmaking in Michigan.
