Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Construction Everywhere
DETROIT (WWJ) - You don't want to leave the house before checking traffic conditions this weekend as construction tie-ups will be on several freeways that are scheduled to be reduced to one lane.
The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.
I-75:
In Oakland County, maintenance work will require the two right lanes of northbound I-75 to be closed from 14 Mile to Rochester roads, and again from Squirrel to Square Lake roads. The lane closures begin at 9 pm on Friday and end by 9 am on Saturday.
I-94:
In Detroit, the ramp from eastbound I-94 to westbound I-96 will be closed for sign upgrading starting at 9 pm on Thursday and ending by 3 am on Friday.
In Detroit, bridge maintenance will require a two-lane closure (right and center lanes) on westbound I-94 at Chene Street (just east of I-75) during the overnight hours. The two lane closures begin at 8 pm on Thursday and end by 5 am on Friday, and again starting at 8 pm on Friday until 10 am on Saturday.
In Macomb County, the left lane of eastbound and westbound I-94 will be closed between 8 Mile and 11 Mile roads for ongoing construction beginning at 8 pm on Friday and ending by 5 am on Monday.
In Wayne County, the right lane of eastbound I-94 will be closed at Haggerty Road for sign work beginning at 7 am and ending at 5 pm on Saturday. In conjunction, the entrance ramp from southbound Haggerty Road to eastbound I-94 will be closed during the same time frame.
I-96:
In Oakland County, installation of pavement markings will require the right lane of eastbound and westbound I-96 to be closed between M-5 and Beck Road starting at 7 am and ending at 7 pm on Saturday. Starting at 7 pm Saturday and ending at 5 pm on Sunday, the two left lanes will be closed in each direction.
I-696:
In Macomb County, starting at 9 am on Saturday, expect a daily single right-lane closure from Gratiot Ave to Wagner Road for construction of a new retaining wall. The lane closure will be put up daily, weather permitting, from 9 am - 7 pm until August.
I-275:
In Wayne County, beginning at 8 pm on Friday and ending by 5 am on Monday, northbound and southbound I-275 will be reduced to a single lane (left two lanes closed) between I-94 and Ecorse Road for pavement repair.
US-24 (Telegraph Road):
In Oakland County, northbound and southbound Telegraph will have two lanes open, between Elizabeth Lake Road and Dixie Highway, for ongoing road repair starting at 8 pm on Friday and ending by 5 am on Monday.
M-59:
In Macomb and Oakland counties, beginning at 5 am on Saturday and ending at 9 pm on Sunday, eastbound and westbound M-59 will be reduced to a single lane between Crooks and Ryan roads for construction.
M-39:
In Wayne and Oakland Counties, M-39 Southfield Freeway will remain closed between the Lodge Freeway and Grand River Avenue until late October.
