Tips To Keep Your Home Cool In Hot Temps

DETROIT (WWJ) - It is hot out there!  And with temperatures expected to stay in the mid 90's through Friday, you may be looking for relief inside your home.

So how can you keep your house as cool as possible? WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher spoke with Pete Casinelli with P & A Building in Grosse Pointe Woods for a few tips on keeping you home as cool as possible during these hot days of July.

Casinelli says to check your attic insulation, air filters in the furnace and keep drapes and blinds closed throughout the day to keep the hot sun out.

"Check your attic insulation. And by that I mean have a licensed contractor come there and look at it. Hopefully a person that deals with the insulation and ventilation of the house. So that's a big aspect of what you can do to keep your house cool," said Casinelli.

"Most people have condensers with air conditioning and those units are outside. And they're also like a filter system. You gotta keep those clean. So an easy way to do that is use the hose and spray them down and clean those little grills so it can also breathe," said Casinelli. "

"Have all your drapes and your blinds drawn to keep it cooler in the house, reflect the sun from getting in the house. If by chance you don't have air conditioning, a nice attic fan is always good for circulation. Cracking the windows open, trying to get the air flowing through for a little breeze," said Casinelli.
