Tigers Need To Bolster Rotation
It may be that Detroit's underachieving rotation is in line for a little tinkering.
Rookie Drew Smyly was yanked from Sunday's start after three innings with a large blood blister on his left middle finger.
Whether it's enough to put him on the disabled list may not be known until the Tigers' medical staff has tried to treat it.
But he's been cuffed around pretty good lately -- allowing 22 earned runs in his last 29 innings over six starts. He's left too many pitches up or in the fat part of the plate and hitters have teed off on him.
For a team that feels it is a postseason contender, having 40 percent of its starting rotation made up of inexperienced rookies is not a sure recipe for success.
