Tigers Likely To Go With Two-Platoon System

It appears the Tigers are planning to enter spring training with platoon arrangements at two key infield positions, second and third.

Management seems to have decided manager Jim Leyland will alternate Brandon Inge and Don Kelly at third, although not in a strict left-vs.-right arrangement.

And second will be shared by switch-hitting Ramon Santiago and Ryan Raburn.

All four have flaws, which of course is why they will be sharing their positions.

The right-handed batting Inge figures to play against all left-handers and many right-handers. He's in the last year of a two-year deal that contains a club option or a buyout for 2013.

What Inge needs to do for Detroit to trigger that option and buy it more time for the arrival of top prospect Nick Castellanos is hit for average and drive in a few runs.
