Tigers Draft RHP Jake Thompson 91st Overall

The Detroit Tigers have made their first selection in the 2012 MLB Draft. The Tigers chose what experts are calling a "power arm" in Jake Thompson out of Rockwall-Heath High School in Texas. Thompson had committed to TCU. Reports say Thompson is expected to sign with the Tigers instead. Thompson is 6'4 235lbs who has a fastball that has touched 93 MPH. Thompson also has a slider, change-up and curveball. He also swings a mean bat and can play first base.

At his time at Rockwall-Heath High School he racked up the accolade's which includes, ESPN Rise All-American - 1st Team, Multi-Position, Texas High School Coaches Association All-State Team - 1st Team, 1B and Baseball America All-American - 1st Team, Utility.
