"Think Like A Man Too" Doesn't Live Up To The Hype
DETROIT (WWJ) - If you're a fan of the original "Think Like A Man," you've undoubtedly been waiting anxiously for the sequel to open in theaters. Well, two years after that hit film took the box office by storm, "Think Like A Man Too" has arrived.
However, despite having so much promise, this film just doesn't live up to the hype. For example, there is the glaring omission of Steve Harvey, the man behind it all. There wouldn't be a film if Harvey hadn't written the best-selling book that inspired the film, "Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man." Whereas, the first film utilized the expertise Harvey spelled out in the book, designed to help women develop meaningful relationships with the men in their lives, there is no mention of him this time around. Instead, Kevin Hart's character, Cedric, does the narration (which Harvey did in the original film) and - with Cedric's lack of success in his marriage to Gail (Wendy Williams), one would think he would be the last person giving advice! But dole out advice he does, and the majority of the advice he gives pertains to Michael's upcoming nuptials to Candace. Cedric also cleverly appoints himself the best man, which also puts him in charge of Michael's bachelor party.
"So, I been giving this a lot of thought," Michael says. "I want you to be my best man."
"Me," Cedric asks.
"No, Ced, actually I was talking to Dom…" Michael answers.
"No, listen, don't say nothin' right now, man," Cedric responds. "I know you and I had a connection, but this is crazy. Let me tell you something, this means so much to me, I'm not gonna let you down. I'm gonna be the best, best man in the history of all best men."
As far as the night of the bachelor party, the producers missed a PRIME opportunity to make the boys' night out one of the most hilarious scenes -- if not THE most hilarious scene -- in the movie! Without giving it away, the boys AND the girls - unknowingly to each another - end up at the same Las Vegas strip club. With all of the excitement leading up to show time - and the anticipation that builds with it - a scene that could have been laugh-out-loud funny ends up being a complete let-down. For one, did the producers give any thought to how many women would want to see Michael Ealy (Dominic) strip? Guess not.
Pass on "Think Like A Man Too" at your neighborhood theater and wait for it to become available for download or on DVD.
