Tens Of Thousands Of DPS Students Plan On Summer School
DETROIT (WWJ) - While some students are planning summer-time fun away from the classroom, more will be back at it for summer school next week. We get more on the story from WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis.
And you may find the highest number of students taking summer classes within the Detroit Public Schools where about half the student population is enrolled in the summer academy.
DPS emergency financial manager Roy Roberts says the goal was to get 35,000 students and they have 33,400 now.
Roberts who says the goal is to raise student academic achievement like getting students reading at grade level and also to get students in a more rigorous curriculum .
The summer academy 2011 is free for Title 1 students and runs from June 21st through July 29th.
