Synergy Broadband Acquries Ann Arbor Data Center

Synergy Broadband announced that it has acquired a data center located in the Waterworks Building on State Street in Ann Arbor. Control of the data center changed hands earlier this year from an unnamed major telecommunication carrier.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Synergy says the data center offers the latest technology, including high capacity cooling systems and diesel generators, around-the-clock security and surveillance, redundant Cisco-powered networks and multiple-carrier fail-over Internet connectivity.

"Synergy's mission is to provide 'intelligent buildings' and offer technology solutions for small businesses," said the company's president, Norman E. Roe. "This data center is an enhancement for our existing clients and help our fiber extension broadband service for many multi-tenant buildings."

Roe said the company has expanded its fiber reach with this acquisition to now have more than 1,000 megabytes of capacity for data services in the local area. The company has a unique approach bringing Internet connectivity to areas where larger providers cannot reach using traditional methods.

"Ann Arbor needs more data center space as local companies currently have few options," Roe said. "Data centers provide 'safe-site' solutions to combat downtime for critical IT data."

Synergy Broadband was founded in 1998. The company is a regional leader providing data center collocation, comprehensive managed services, Web products and services, broadband and phone service.
