Burglary Suspect Fatally Shot By Taylor Police

Taylor Police have released the name of the man who was shot and killed Thursday morning by an officer during an investigation into thefts of area businesses. The 56-year-old man is identified as Terry Nick Tillinger, who was last known to live in Eastpointe.

Police say they were checking the area after recent reports of break-ins when they spotted Tillinger, who matched the description of the suspect.

Tillinger was shot by an officer at about 5 a.m. Thursday after struggling with and then dragging a Taylor police officer alongside his car through industrial complex along Trolley Drive. 

Police say that found in the search of the Tillinge's vehicle were several cutting implements under the driver's seat, including a 12-inch knife.

Tillinger was taken to Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn where he died from his injuries. Police say he an extensive criminal history including crimes of larceny, assault, fraud and drug possession.

The officer involved was administrative leave Thursday, pending a continuing investigation.
