Son Bound Over For Trial On Charges Of Murdering His Father

TROY (WWJ) - A young Troy man charged with first degree murder in the death of his father will stand trial.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Pat Sweeting reported Patrick Mikes Jr. was bound over for trail Monday in Troy's District Court.

Judge William Bohling noted the prosecution had shown that a crime had been committed. Preliminary evidence included a video of the defendant at a Meijer store buying stain remover, ammonia and rubber gloves.

Police report that when they went to the home of Patrick Mikes Sr. there was a smell of blood. Officers testified they asked if it was OK to look around the home for Mikes Sr. and they were told "yes" by the sons.

In the basement, behind the furnace, police said closed bags were found - one of them open just enough for police to see something red. Upon opening the bag, police discovered a blood-stained towel and a sleeping bag.

The defense said Monday morning at the hearing there may have been a struggle, but there was no intent to kill.

Mikes Sr. was reported missing by his two sons and after a manhunt, his body was found August 10 in a field northwest of Flint.
