Snyder Rejects 3 Proposed Detroit Charter Changes
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder has rejected three of four proposed amendments to Detroit's newly revised city charter.
Word of Snyder's decision came late Thursday. He objected to proposed amendments dealing with the role of the head of Detroit's law department enforcing the charter, rehiring city employees and acceptable amounts for job-related gifts.
A letter from Snyder says most of the changes "appear to signal a retreat from the ethical standards set by the charter."
City Council sent the proposed changes to the state for approval with the intent of placing them before city voters in November. Council could take up the issue again Friday.
Snyder didn't object to a proposed change related to signatures candidates must collect to run for city offices.
