'Second Chance' Job Fair Will Help Ex-Cons Find Employment In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A job fair targeting ex-cons is looking to give a second chance to those who have served time behind bars.

The Detroit Alumni Chapter Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity is holding the Second Chance Job Fair at an eastside Detroit church on Saturday. Every employer invited is a "felony friendly" employer with vacancies for employment placement.

Chapter president Eric Brown told WWJ Newsradio 950 that several employers-- including the city of Detroit and Prestige Automotive -- will be represented at the event.

"One of the good things about this event is every employer that is going to be there made a commitment to us that they are looking to hire and they do have open positions," Brown said.

Hamtramck Recycling, Cintas, Metro PCS and Meijer will be participating, but will not be at the event in person.

"It's one thing to get an expungement, bu once you get the expungement you're still going to need to find employment," Brown said.

The fair runs from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Second Ebenezer Church on Dequindre south of E. McNichols Rd.
