Royal Oak Principal Put On Leave After Money Turns Up Missing

A popular Royal Oak high school principal is on paid leave after some cash came up missing from the student activity fund.

Royal Oak Public Schools Superintendent Shawn Louis-Lakin told WWJ Newsradio parents were notified by letter of the investigation involving Principal Michael Greening and accounting irregularities in the student activity fund. Greening has been with Royal Oak Neighborhood School for about 15 years.

Royal Oak police are reportedly investigating the money missing from an account that collects money from events like the Homecoming Dance.

Louis-Lakin would not say how much money is in dispute.

Retired Birmingham schools administrator Jim Moll will act as interim when classes resume next month.

"At this point the investigation has been turned over to outside agencies," Louis-Lakin said.
