Romulus Man Killed In Pickup/Semi Crash

ROMULUS (WWJ) - A 62-year old Romulus man is dead after his pickup truck was struck by a swerving semi truck's trailer.  It happened Wednesday afternoon along westbound Ecorse Road in Romulus, east of Harrison.

"The truck was actually pulling two trailers... For reasons unknown, the last trailer ended up swerving into the eastbound lane, and it struck a pickup truck driven by Ronald Author Jones," said Sergeant Donald Smith.

Smith tells WWJ Newsradio 950 it took several hours to clear the accident scene.

"Anytime that there is a major crash there has to be photographs taken, you have to interview witnesses. With this crash, involving a semi tractor-trailer -- it's a commercial motor vehicle and there's obviously  a lot more involvement in terms of the investigative process for that," he said.

Sergeant Smith said the incident is still under investigation -- but it is not believed that alcohol or drugs played a role in the wreck.
