Romeo High School Assistant Football Coach Charged With Soliciting Students For Sex

ROMEO (WWJ) - A now former assistant football coach and hall monitor at Romeo High School is being charged with soliciting students for sex.

Hector Tanner, 25, is charged with multiple felonies: criminal sexual conduct, third degree; accosting a child for immoral purposes; and two counts of using a computer to attempt to commit a crime.

Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith says Tanner — known to students as "Coach Hec" — is accused of inviting two female students, ages 15 and 16, to join him in a three-way sexual encounter.

In the Twitter conversations conducted on a tablet issued by the school and obtained by authorities, Tanner allegedly boasted repeatedly of his appeal to the students in the hallways:

"And yea everyday I have girls literally all over me…lol…It's like if I don't [----] one I'm a p[----]...It's craaaaazy I hear my name everywhere...It's literally like not my fault that everyone thinks I'm attractive."

He also urges the girls not to speak to anyone about the matters discussed in the Tweets, for fear of discovery and punishment:  "And I honestly just don't want to get canned Or go to jail…:("

Smith applauded the foster-mother who found the Twitter conversation and came forward. That's when authorities acted swiftly to escort Tanner off of school property.

"It is absolutely crucial as parents that we keep vigilant about our children's social media interactions," Smith said, in a media release. "In this day and age, it's essential that we know what our children are discussing on their devices, and with whom.

"The danger is out there, and it's real."

An article posted to RomeoNews.org in May of this year reported, "Hector wants to be remembered as the best hall monitor ever, and desires for kids to look back knowing that he added positivity to the school and was a great person and coach."

Smith said Tanner is expected to be arraigned in 42-1 District Court, Romeo within the next few days.
