The Detroit Tigers have signed Joaquin Benoit to a three-year deal for $16.5 million, according to published reports. MLBTradeRumors.com reports that it's the largest deal for a non-closing reliever since the Chicago White Sox gave right-hander Scott Linebrink a four-year, $19-million pact three years ago.

A year ago, the Tigers weren't willing to do a three-year deal with Brandon Lyon, who had just completed a tremendous year as their setup man. Lyon left as a free agent and signed a three-year deal with Houston for $15 million.
