Red Wings Report: Inside Shots
Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg is doing a good job setting up his teammates. He has a career-high 51 assists, which is tied for third in the NHL.
But Zetterberg feels he should be putting the puck in the net more often. He has scored only two goals in his past 26 games heading into Wednesday's game against Washington at Joe Louis Arena.
"I think I get enough shots. It's more of when I get a chance I got to take care of it," Zetterberg said. "I think you're maybe squeezing the stick a little bit too much."
Zetterberg's dry spell isn't from a lack of shooting. He ranks sixth in the league with 268 shots. But his shooting percentage (6.8 percent) was tied for the lowest among the NHL's top 69 point-producers.
Zetterberg is one of the league's better two-way forwards but has a minus-10 rating in his past 10 games.
Coach Mike Babcock said he plans on using two sets of lines the rest of the regular season. Zetterberg will play with Pavel Datsyuk at home, where the Red Wings have the last change and can better control match-ups. They will be split on the road, forcing opponents to choose whom they will use their top checking line against.
RED WINGS 5, BLUES 3: The Red Wings allowed two goals in a span of 2:31 early in the third period, as the Blues tied it at 3-3. Pavel Datsyuk then made a couple of nifty moves in front of the net to score what proved to be the winning goal at 13:13. It was his second game-winning goal in as many nights. It wouldn't have mattered had his team not done an excellent job by killing four consecutive Blues power plays in the second period.
